Approach from the North East Nahoon point has a rocky bank which extends about half a mile East and South to 33o00'S and 27o57'E. You are advised to give this a wide berth, and approach from a safer position 33o01S and 27o56E towards the harbour entrance.
Approach from the South West After rounding Hood Point, keep the same distance offshore until the grain Elevator is abeam of you, then set course for 33o01S and 27o56E. Once you are past the South Breakwater at a safe distance , and can see the Leading light, change your course again to enter the harbour.
All craft must call East London Port Control on VHF channel 16, with 12 being the working channel.
Entry Leave the South Breakwater Light OcR 2sec, range 10 mile, in a position 33o01,6'S 27o55.5'E to port. Continue going between the East Breakwater head with light OG range 2 miles and the South Breakwater, entering the port.
Carry on up the port until just before the first bridge, where you will have the choice of mooring alongside Latimers Landing or on the available Trot moorings
Foreigners must tie up at Latimers Landing, on the Starboard side of the channel, on the first berth closest to the Bridge and get cleared in by the police.

The Yacht Club is a family orientated venue, with a great view of the harbour and the yachts resting lazily on their moorings. The clubs pub is open on Every evening from 16h00 until 21h00, as well as over the Weekends. Meals are available on Wednesday evenings although prior booking is recommended. Friday evenings are normally sponsored snack evenings, with snacks provided by individual members or companies. No bookings are required, and all are welcome to join. |
