Competent Crew

RequirementSailing Competent Crew Course   No practical experience but an interest in sailing.

Duration:           4 Weeks (Two Evening and a Saturday or Sunday half day practical per week)

Where:              Buffalo River Yacht Club, East London.

This is a beginners' course that concentrates on practical sailing. Beginners learn how to become active, contributing crew members. The course begins in the East London Port with practical exposure to the parts of the yacht, fittings and safety equipment. The following weeks include basic boat-handling, docking sailing to either Nahoon or Cove Rock (Determinded by the direction of the wind).

  • Fire precautions and fire fighting

Course materials and instruments:

All students are provided with a manual produced by the Buffalo River Sailing School. Instruments and charts are supplied and included in the course price.

Level of skill on completion of course:

After completing our Compentent Crew course, you will have the necessary knowledge to be an active crew member aboard almost any yacht.
